Community Engagement

Community Engagement

The Climate Centre places a high value on community engagement, recognizing that local knowledge and active participation are crucial for effective climate adaptation. By collaborating closely with communities, we ensure that their unique insights and needs are integrated into climate assessments and decision-making processes. We believe that fostering strong, inclusive partnerships with community members empowers them to take ownership of climate action, enhances the relevance of our work, and leads to more sustainable and resilient solutions that reflect the lived experiences of those most impacted by climate change.

We engage with community through various efforts. You can read more about our efforts to tackle social justice here, and how we engage with local governments to understanding the way in which they are impacted by climate change here. We also engage with community through our volunteer program and our podcast A Climate of Change, which incorporates climate news, interviews with researchers, and addressing eco-anxiety. You can read more about our podcast here and listen to the latest episode below. You can read more about our public outreach efforts here.

The Climate Radio is a volunteer-run community-based radio station dedicated to delivering globally relevant updates on weather forecasts and disaster alerts and climate change relevant radio programs. By harnessing the power of community engagement, it serves as an important resource for listeners seeking timely information about climate-related events, which is particularly challenging in a global environment characterised by funding restrictions on environmental and weather programs. Climate Radio offers an array of programs, including insightful interviews with experts and activists, as well as mindful reflections that encourage listeners to connect with nature and foster a deeper understanding of environmental issues. This unique blend of information and inspiration empowers communities to stay informed and resilient in the face of climate challenges.

We also produce digital material with climate data analytics relevant to local communities, which you can read more about here. You can also see an example of climate mapping for this geography using data from Autumn 2025 below. Please note that climate maps are best viewed on a desktop with a sufficiently wide screen, otherwise the display will appear too cramped.
