Coastal Assessments
The Climate Centre evaluates and address the challenges posed by climate change to coastal environments. By combining cutting-edge scientific research with local knowledge, our program provides tailored assessments of coastal vulnerabilities, helping communities, governments, and industries understand the risks posed by rising sea levels, storm surges, and extreme weather events. The program focuses on identifying adaptation strategies to mitigate these impacts, ensuring long-term resilience for coastal ecosystems, infrastructure, and economies.
This also involves conducting CHRMAP (Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Planning) assessments. This approach involves a detailed analysis of coastal hazard risks, coupled with the development of tailored management and adaptation strategies. CHRMAP assessments focus on reducing the risks from coastal hazards through proactive planning, engaging communities, and creating sustainable pathways for managing the future impacts of climate change on coastal zones.

We most recently presented research at the American Geophysical Union 2024 conference on pumice raft drift in the Pacific Ocean. Pumice rafts often impact coastal communities and are poorly understood.
